Thanks to Sicomin resins, the metallic horse Zeus rises above the Seine during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games.
Sicomin, Châteauneuf les Martigues, France, 1er August 2024 : Sicomin, a leading formulator and supplier of high-performance epoxy systems, is proud to announce the use of its epoxy resins in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony. Sicomin advanced epoxy resins were integral to the creation of Zeus, the flying metallic horse, that captivated audiences worldwide as it soared above the Seine River.
The ambitious project, brought to life by MMProcess, composite design and technology specialists based in Brittany, France, showcased a stunning 14-metre long and 5-metre wide carbon composite trimaran that was used to manoeuvre the Zeus figure down the Seine.
Engineered and constructed in just three months, the fully electric, zero-emission trimaran utilized cutting-edge hydrodynamics design and race-boat technology. The sophisticated shape ensured that Zeus glided smoothly and silently above the water, creating a seamless visual experience.
Sicomin SR 8100 / SD 882x and SR 1700 / SD 280x were used for the fabrication of the hulls, cross beams, and underwater foils of the trimaran, delivering the required stiffness and lightweight properties to the carbon fibre components, and ensuring the structural integrity and safety of the mechanized horse.
“We are delighted to have contributed to such an extraordinary and memorable event “ ,said Philippe Marcovich, President, Sicomin. “Our collaboration with MMProcess not only highlights the capabilities of Sicomin epoxy systems but also demonstrates the innovative spirit and engineering excellence that the Paris 2024 Olympics represent.”
The Zeus project underscores Sicomin’s commitment to providing advanced composite materials that enable visionary designs and groundbreaking performances.
